Frequently asked questionsShow all

Can anyone call? Hide

The line is open to you and your immediate family members - adults and children will receive the same confidential service. You can call any time that suits you, day or night, and we're here 365 days a year, even on Christmas day.

Will it cost anything? Hide

Just the cost of the phone call - and that will be charged at local rates. The information you receive won't cost you a penny. So please don't be put off making that vital call.

Who answers the phone? Hide

They're known as Bupa HealthLine nurses and there are good reasons why. They're fully qualified, specially trained nurses ready to lend a friendly, sympathetic ear. They'll be able to answer questions on many health issues. So don't think there has to be something wrong with you before you use the service. A lot of our callers are perfectly healthy - they just need a simple piece of information.

What sort of things can I ask about? Hide

You may have an ache or a pain that won't go away - we can help provide clinical information on your symptoms and discuss possible treatments. We can tell you about possible after-effects of surgery, side-effects of any medication you're taking, where support groups are based, what inoculations you need when you're travelling abroad, and where to get them. We can talk you through first aid treatments for accidents around the home. Basically, you can ask about almost any health related issue.

Will I still need to go to my GP? Hide

Maybe. The HealthLine provides an invaluable information service which sometimes might prevent an unnecessary trip to your GP. But, if you're showing symptoms, we can't provide diagnoses or prescriptions. Only your GP can do that. Although we can help you with most questions you may want to ask your GP.
