About BUPA

BUPA has a turnover in excess of £4bn. BUPA is a private company limited by guarantee. As such, it has no shareholders and all of it surpluses are re-invested back into the business. BUPA exists for the benefit of its current and future customers.

BUPA actively searches for caring, commercially-minded individuals who want to improve BUPA's performance for the benefit of its customers.

Your role at BUPA

Through careful and informed choice of placement, coupled with career flexibility, you can form a career path that you are then free to pursue post-programme, be it into operational management, a specialist function such as HR or marketing or more generalist role such as project management. Placements might be in any one of our business units and could be anywhere in the UK or in our overseas businesses. For example you might spend:

  1. five months reviewing customer service in Manchester
  2. six months as a project team member in one of our businesses overseas
  3. your final six-month placement in a group function in central London

This is only an example and you'll appreciate that in a global business of 44,000 employees the opportunities and possible combinations are numerous. We work with you and the business to fulfil mutual needs. Your mobility will be a key feature in getting the most from this programme and, given that you may be suitable for an overseas placement, an ability to quickly adapt and perform in new environments is a distinct advantage.

At the end of the programme, you and your colleagues will move into a variety of roles in different business units and functions. These will depend on what sort of work you want to do, which part of the country you want to live in, and what is available. Typically you will have developed your competence and interest in a particular area by this stage and through high-performance, be in demand.

Since the programme began in 1999, 93 percent of graduates have taken up a role post-programme. Recent trainees have moved into:

  • front-line management
  • project management
  • HR consultancy
  • research
  • business analysis
  • marketing
  • business development
  • quality assessment

Supporting you

You will become part of a close-knit group of graduates and will undergo training, challenging tasks and community work together. You will receive the following dedicated support.

  • Mentor - typically a previous graduate from the programme.
  • Line manager - to help ensure you get to grips with the "big picture" issues and provide a valuable source of knowledge and experience for your responsibilities. Given your abilities they will also ensure you are sufficiently stretched by the work that you do.
  • Programme manager - to ensure your programme runs smoothly and your development remains on course. Career counselling will be provided to help you understand your motivations and career goals.

Collectively they will support and challenge both your development and commercial performance.

The work that you undertake on placement will be real and meaningful; you will not be placed in a shadowing role with phantom responsibilities. BUPA needs commercially minded, caring individuals who can deal with growing responsibilities and continually improve their level of performance. Our graduate programme aims to expose you to the realities of business life from the beginning and match your growing competence with increased challenge as the programme progresses. You'll also find you're not hidden away from our customers or other employees but carefully integrated into a team, this provides a real opportunity to make a difference for your colleagues and our customers. You can expect to work hard, be well supported and get plenty of opportunity to enjoy the company.
