Cancer drugs covered by Bupa - 7 August 2008
The National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) has today issued draft guidance about four drugs, which could extend the life of patients with advanced kidney cancer.
NICE says these drugs - Sutent (sunitinib), Avastin (bevacizumab), Nexavar (sorafenib) and Torisel (temsirolimus) - are not cost effective for NHS patients.
Bupa funds all four drugs. We want to reassure Bupa members suffering from kidney cancer that Bupa will routinely fund these, and many other drugs which are not widely available on the NHS, as part of eligible treatment.
- Last year, Bupa members benefited from more than £10m spent on breakthrough drugs not yet widely available elsewhere.
- Bupa's unique network of specialist cancer treatment centres improve chances of recovery, wherever you live.
- A recent survey of 11 major private medical insurance providers by leading charity Cancerbackup, and employee benefits consultancy Mercer, found that Bupa's Premier policy met the gold standard for cancer cover.
