Follow-up treatment and case management
The Royal Marsden breast care unit video transcript
The majority of patients are discharged following their first visit to the unit because their results are benign. Some patients require some follow-up in the out-patient department, and some patients will require treatment for cancer. If a patient is diagnosed with cancer, their treatment is discussed and fully planned by the multi-disciplinary team.
The multidisciplinary team consists of consultant surgeons, medical oncologists, clinical oncologists, pathologists, radiologists and nurse specialists. They meet on a weekly basis to discuss the primary management of a patient when a diagnosis has been made and to discuss further treatment once the results are available after surgery.
