MRI
As a Bupa member, you have access to a network of Bupa-approved out-patient MRI units. MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is a special technique that uses a strong magnetic field and radiowaves to produce images. It does not use X-rays so there is no exposure to radiation. MRI can be used to obtain images of many parts of the body and therefore aids diagnosis. It provides very detailed images of the internal anatomy and is also excellent at demonstrating abnormalities which cannot be shown on X-rays. In many cases it now replaces invasive techniques.
What is a Bupa-approved out-patient MRI unit?
Bupa's approved network of out-patient MRI units ensures that should you require an out-patient MRI scan you receive diagnosis and treatment at facilities which have met our high standards, including quality of clinical care and value-for-money within your area. In most cases you will be offered a scan within two working days and the results will be with the consultant within a further two working days.
How can I be referred to a Bupa-approved out-patient MRI unit?
If your consultant requires you to have an out-patient MRI scan, you should call Bupa to make sure that the hospital or MRI facilities are included in the Bupa-approved out-patient MRI network. This is also important if your consultant sends you for a scan during your consultation.
