What can you expect from a Bupa-approved cataract unit?
Members receiving cataract treatment can be confident that Bupa-approved cataract units meet defined quality criteria based on standards set by the Healthcare Commission and other clinical governance organisations. These criteria cover procedures from pre-operative examinations and instrument sterilisation to anti-infection procedures and post-operative care. Bupa-approved cataract units will, in most cases, provide members with an admission date within 14 days of their consultation.
How can I be referred to a Bupa-approved cataract unit?
Referral is normally made by your GP or by a hospital doctor. If your GP suspects a problem, he or she may refer you directly to a consultant. To ensure that you continue to have access to appropriate treatment, it is important that you call Bupa to pre-authorise your treatment after you have been to your GP.
