When you're going to a hospital, you want to be sure that it's the right one for you. But with so many choices, it can be hard to pick the place that best suits your needs. Consider visiting potential hospitals or calling them to ask about anything you are unsure of. Below are some points to think about when you are deciding where to go.

Read up
Visit the websites of the hospitals you are considering and learn all you can about them. Try to get a feel for the values and attitudes that lie behind the care they offer. Consider visiting potential providers or calling them up to find out anything you are unsure of.

The right hospital for you
When you're going to a hospital, you want to be sure that it's the right one for you.

Doctor advice
Ask your GP, doctor or consultant which hospital he or she recommends, from those available to you and why. They are likely to know the reputations of local hospitals and surgeons, and this may be helpful when you're deciding where you should go.

Children
Many private hospitals don't provide health care specifically for children. If you are looking for a hospital for your child, be sure to ask whether they provide specialist facilities to look after children.

Specialist units
Sometimes you will be seeking specialist treatment that is only offered by certain hospitals or clinics. In these situations your choices become more limited and you may have to travel further afield to get eligible treatment from specialists.
