Can I leave the scheme at any time? Hide

You can cancel your membership of the scheme at any time by writing to Bupa, Staines, TW18 4XF.

What happens when I leave the Police Service? Hide

If you retire or leave the Police Service, you may remain in the scheme.

If I lapse my cover at renewal can I re-join later? Hide

Any member leaving the scheme will only be able to re-join, as long as they are still eligible, on a medically underwritten basis (i.e. all previous medical conditions may be excluded from future claims).

At what age does cover for my dependants cease? Hide

If you have dependent children, they can remain on your policy until the age of 21 or 24 if in full time education.

If my personal circumstances change what will I need to do? Hide

You are responsible for notifying Philip Williams and Company and Bupa in writing of any change in your circumstances including change of address. If you do not inform us of a change in your dependant family then they may not be covered and therefore unable to claim. If you have a new born baby, you can add that baby to your cover without underwriting so long as it is within 12 weeks of the date of birth. Please remember that the family cover will only be provided to the members that you have named to Bupa.

Is there an excess charge? Hide

Yes. The scheme includes a compulsary £100 claims excess payable per member each scheme year in the event of a claim.

How do I make a claim? Hide

You should call Bupa on 0845 60 50 253* before you see a consultant or therapist. Bupa will then take you through a pre-authorisation process, it is essential to keep Bupa informed throughout your treatment. There are usually no forms to complete.
