What it measures

• How well the lungs can move air in and out, and lung size
• The ratio describes the percentage of accessible volume that can be forcibly exhaled in one second. Normal range: 75-85 percent

Health implications

• Poor lung function may indicate conditions such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, excess weight

Smoking will often compromise lung function
