Staff and residents at Trowbridge Oaks Bupa Care Home have completed a 15K walk this month to raise awareness and money for local hospice, Dorothy House.

Laura Bright and Alysha Green, who both work at the Bupa care home, set themselves a goal of walking 10 kilometres and raising £100 for Dorothy House. Managing to exceed both goals, the duo walked an extra 5K and nearly tripled their fundraising goal. Their GoFundMe page has a current total of £280.

The walk kick-started inside the care home with laps of the lounge, so that residents could also get involved. Laura and Alysha were then cheered on by their family members as they headed towards Dorothy House in Winsley and finally made their way back to Trowbridge Oaks on West Ashton Road. They finished their charitable journey in the grounds of the home, with residents re-joining them for the final leg.

Dorothy House Hospice Care provides compassionate care and support for people in the local community with a life-limiting illness. Bupa’s fundraising team took on the 15K challenge to raise money for Dorothy House as they support a lot of their residents.

Commenting on the event, Anita Schulz, Home Manager, said: “We are so proud to be able to support Dorothy House in this way, as it is a charity that is close to many of our hearts here at Trowbridge Oaks Bupa Care Home.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have surpassed our goal in terms of both the distance walked and funds raised. We are extremely grateful to everyone who kindly donated and it was lovely to see family and friends come out to cheer everyone on from the roadside.”

Trowbridge Oaks Bupa Care Home is situated in Trowbridge and welcomes residents in need of residential or nursing care, including those living with Advanced dementia, Huntington’s and Parkinson’s.
