Life at Shaw Side Nursing and Residential Home

We know that interesting activities are a vital part of good care. Residents' sleeping patterns and appetites are improved if there's something fun and engaging to do every day.

Our activities

There's a variety of activities for residents to take part in at Shaw Side, from gentle exercise sessions to film clubs, bingo and baking. Beauty therapy sessions and clothes parties are always popular – plus, for our green-fingered residents there's a little light gardening.

Local entertainers pop in regularly and we organise days out to local garden centres, canal boat trips and visits to Blackpool's famous illuminations. We also work with nearby schools and charities organising community events.

Residents can pursue their own interests, revive a forgotten hobby or even try something new. Friends and relatives are also welcome to join in.

How do I arrange a visit?

We have an open door policy, so you are welcome to pop in to the home at any time. However, we recommend you avoid visiting at main meal times as these can be very busy. If you would like to speak to the home manager when you visit, you can make an appointment by calling us first. Download our guide to choosing a care home

Can I bring my own furniture?

Depending on its size, new residents are welcome to bring furniture to their new room. Many of our residents bring a favourite armchair or pictures and other small belongings to personalise their room.

How soon can I move in?

This depends on availability of rooms in the home, understanding the cost of care and the person moving in receiving a care assessment.
