Making Healthcare easier

For more information about how digital GP works, see our FAQs section. We cover everything from how prescriptions work and how to use the Symptom Checker, to having your appointment using British Sign Language (BSL).

And, if you don’t have health insurance with us, you can choose Bupa’s self-pay service, Remote GP, instead.

Useful information

Frequently asked questions about our digital GP service

If Bupa Blua is included in your cover, you'll continue to enjoy the benefits of a digital GP service. But from now on you'll use Bupa Blua Health rather than Babylon. It only takes a few seconds to download the Bupa Blua Health app from Google Play or the App Store. And if you already have a Bupa digital account (for example, Bupa Touch or Be.Me) then just use your usual sign-in to make an appointment.

Not all customers are eligible to use Bupa Blua Health just yet. If you’re unsure, here’s how you can check:

  • Sign in to the Bupa Touch app, where the 'More' section will tell you if Bupa Blua Health is an option for you. (If you haven't used Bupa Touch before, you can download it from the App Store or Google Play.) If Bupa Blua Health isn't an option for you yet, just continue using Digital GP provided by Babylon for now.
  • Call our Member Services team on 03456 090 111. Lines are open Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm, Saturday 8am to 4pm and bank holidays 8am to 1pm.
  • If you get your Bupa health insurance through your employer, check with your employee benefits rep or your HR team.

The Bupa Blua Health app offers you a choice of healthcare professionals, not just GPs. That's because we want to guide you to the most appropriate source of support as quickly as possible.

Book an online appointment with a physiotherapist. A phone or video call can be an effective way to get help from a physiotherapist. They can assess and treat a large range of muscular and joint conditions, and could also refer you for further treatment.

Book an online appointment with a pharmacist. They can advise you about conditions such as asthma, depression, high blood pressure, contraception or minor ailments. They can also help with prescription requests. They can review medicines and handle complex medicine queries. They prescribe antibiotics responsibly and only where appropriate. Bupa Blua Health prescriptions are private, so you'll need to pay for your medication. You'll also need to pay for delivery to your local pharmacy or to your home.

Book an online appointment with a nurse. An advanced nurse practitioner can diagnose and treat most common illnesses such as coughs, earaches, sore throats and urinary tract infections. They can also help with more complex problems. Just like GPs, they can also issue prescriptions. Bupa Blua Health prescriptions are private, so you'll need to pay for your medication.

Book an online appointment with a mental health nurse. They can assess and treat a wide range of symptoms and could refer you on if you need further support.

Yes. You’ll be able to do this when you book an appointment in the Bupa Blua Health app. Your past Bupa Blua Health appointments can be seen in the app, so this can be a helpful reminder if you’d like to talk to the same clinician again. Unfortunately, when you move to Bupa Blua Health you won’t be able to see past appointments booked via Digital GP provided by Babylon.

Yes. For British Sign Language, download the SignVideo app from your usual app store. Tap 'SignDirectory' on the home screen, and search for 'Bupa Blua Health'. You can use this to connect with our support team and request a free BSL interpreter for your GP appointments. The support team is available from 8am to 10pm, 7 days a week.

You don’t need to have the app open to take the call. Five minutes before your online appointment is due to start, you’ll receive a reminder notification from the app. To make sure you get these notifications, go to ‘Settings’ on your phone and enable ‘Push notifications’ for the Bupa Blua Health app. The clinician will call you at the appointment time by video or phone, depending on what you booked.

Yes, if the online doctor thinks you need one. However, the fit note they give you may not be valid for Univeral Credit or other benefits, or for statutory sick pay purposes. You’ll probably need to see your NHS GP for that, so please check with your employer.

If you need urgent medical attention then you should contact the emergency services instead of turning to the app. Here are a few examples of when you should call 999:

  • Chest pain
  • Severe bleeding
  • Severe difficulty in breathing (shortness of breath)
  • Sudden, severe pain anywhere in the body
  • Moderate to severe burns
  • Convulsions or seizures
  • A sudden change in mental status (such as unusual behaviour, confusion, or difficulty waking from sleep)
  • Head or spinal injuries
  • Serious limb impairment or broken bones
  • If you have harmed yourself or have plans to end your life
    • The Symptom Checker within the Bupa Blua Health app can be very helpful, but shouldn't be relied on as a substitute for a medical diagnosis or advice.

Bupa Blua Health is a UK-based service but you can download the app and use some of its features from anywhere. You'll just need a reliable network connection. Our services follow UK laws and regulations when you're using them from abroad. Unfortunately, due to local restrictions, you can't speak to a UK clinician through Bupa Blua Health from Australia, Canada, China, Germany, New Zealand, South Africa, or the USA. Before booking, please check for any local restrictions on consulting with a clinician outside of the country you're in at the time.

There are some locations in Europe where you may be able to pick up your private prescription. Please let the clinician know during your appointment if you're outside of the UK, so they can best advise you. Bupa Blua Health prescriptions are private, so you'll need to pay for your medication.

All Bupa Blua Health clinicians speak English. If you prefer a different language, we can add an interpreter to your call. We can help with over 200 languages. Contact our Bupa Blua Health support team on 0330 303 8000. Lines are open 8am-10pm Monday to Sunday.

All of the online clinicians you’ll meet through Bupa Blua Health are registered with and regulated by the relevant statutory bodies:

  • GPs are regulated by the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • Nurses (including mental health nurses) are regulated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Pharmacists are regulated by the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Physiotherapists are regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

Bupa Blua Health is inspected and regulated by the Care Quality Commission in the United Kingdom.

On the app's home screen, click ‘Check symptoms'. Describe your symptoms in the app. The AI-powered Symptom Checker will then find health information that's relevant for you and suggest your next steps.

Please note

  • Symptom Checker can be very helpful, but it’s not a replacement for seeing a doctor if you’re unwell.
  • Symptom Checker is still learning about children and about health in pregnancy, so it isn’t ready to help with those topics. Please book a digital GP appointment, instead.

You can track your prescriptions within the Bupa Blua Health app. From there, you could:

  • collect your medication from a pharmacy of your choice, usually within the hour, depending on their opening hours. You can also collect over the weekend at selected pharmacies.
  • have your medication delivered to your door. This service will be provided by Phlo, an online pharmacy. Availability and time slots vary according to location.
  • have your medication posted to you.

Same-day and next-day delivery options are available in many areas, along with postal deliveries for all. You can check your own delivery options on the Phlo website. Phlo operates Monday to Friday 9am to 7pm, Saturday 9am to 4pm, and Sunday 9am to 1pm. During their operating hours, you can select the option to have your medication delivered. Once confirmed, you'll be emailed within an hour to arrange delivery.

Bupa Blua Health prescriptions are private, so you'll need to pay for your medication and delivery.

Prescriptions are provided for free but as Bupa Blua prescriptions are private, you'll need to pay for your medication. The cost will vary according to the product and the pharmacy. You won't always have to pay more than the NHS prescription charge. Some of the most commonly prescribed medications cost less than the NHS prescription charge. If you find that the medication you need is going to cost more with a private prescription, you can see your NHS GP and get an NHS prescription instead. You would pay the standard NHS prescription cost for medication with an NHS prescription.

Yes. However, you’ll need to book a new appointment each time you need a repeat prescription.

Most Bupa health insurance customers have access to Bupa Blua Health. If you don't have access to this service, you may have access to another of our digital GP services.

Customers who live on the Isle of Man, or have a Bupa Standard, Bupa Premium or Bupa Your Choice policy, do not have access to Bupa Blua Health. But these customers can access GP24 provided by HealthHero. Some corporate schemes don't include access to Bupa Blua Health or GP24.

If Bupa Blua Health is included in your cover, anyone named on your Bupa private health insurance can use the service.

Children under the age of 16 can access appointments and use other features of this app, but only if they are named on the main member's policy and eligible. Only the main member can make appointments for them. Children under 16 can only have a consultation with an online doctor if a parent or guardian is present, and it must be a video call.

There is no limit to the number of appointments you can have.

All notes made during the appointment will be made available to you within the app at the end of each call.

If you give explicit consent at the time of booking your consultation, your information can be shared with your NHS GP and with Bupa. This is to help with onward care and to improve your experience. You can update your GP details using ‘Clinical records' in the app. We will never share your medical information with your employer.

Restricted members of our senior clinical management team, who are managing your care, can also access your details if needed. Our privacy notice explains how and where your information may be shared.

  • You will always be logged out of the Bupa Blua Health app after 30 minutes of inactivity.
  • Even if someone tried to access your clinical records while you’re signed in on another device, they’d be asked to re-enter your password. If you've chosen a password that enables you to access certain parts of our app, you re responsible for not sharing this password. Please don't share your password with anyone.
  • If your phone offers Touch or Face ID, you can choose to enable it within the app for an extra layer of security.

We store information about you on secure servers located in the UK.

This includes:

  • your personal health data
  • your primary care information
  • your secondary care information
  • your medication information
  • your diagnostic information

See our T&Cs and privacy notice for more details.

  • In the Bupa Blua Health app, click on the ‘Me’ icon.
  • Choose ‘Clinical records’ to update your NHS GP details and your medical history.
  • Click through to the ‘Your details’ section. Here you can edit your name, email address, phone number, postal address, date of birth, and other personal information.

Patient and data safety are our top priority. So, the Bupa Blua Health app contains an ID verification process to help keep your information secure. You'll only need to do this the first time you book an appointment, and it should just take a few minutes. If you haven't completed this step before your appointment, you can still have the appointment. However, the clinician won't be able to issue any prescriptions until you complete the ID verification. You can check your status in the 'Me' section of the app before your appointment begins.

Here's how to complete the security validation process. First, using your phone, you'll be asked to take a picture of one of the following proofs of ID, which will then be uploaded automatically.

  • Passport
  • Driver’s licence
  • Identity card
  • Residence permit

Once you’ve done that, you’ll need to take a photo of your face (a selfie), which will also upload automatically. That completes the process.

Should you struggle at any stage, please don't hesitate to contact the digital GP team on 0330 303 8000. Lines are open 8am to 10pm every day of the week.

No. However, you can use our self-pay service, Remote GP, instead.

Customers who live on the Isle of Man, or have a Bupa Standard, Bupa Premium or Bupa Your Choice policy, do not have access to Bupa Blua Health, but can access GP24 provided by HealthHero. Some corporate schemes don't include access to Bupa Blua Health or GP24, so please check your scheme documents or give us a call.
