At Bupa, we believe having a workforce that’s healthy, resilient, engaged and motivated helps businesses thrive. So, we’ve collaborated with YouGov to publish the first-ever Workplace Wellbeing Census – a must-read for business leaders, people managers and anyone whose work covers employee wellbeing.
The census explores how the UK workforce really feel, how their working life affects their wellbeing, and how well-equipped businesses are to deal with wellbeing issues. It compares the different experiences of more than 4,000 employees across 12 industry sectors.
Worryingly, the census highlights several causes for concern. Nearly a quarter of people (23%) are struggling with their wellbeing, and almost three quarters of those say both their work life and mental health are poor too (72% each). And almost half of all employees told us that they wouldn’t feel comfortable approaching their line manager with a wellbeing issue.
Iain McMillan, Bupa’s Director of Intermediary Distribution, told us:
“The census shows that British businesses still have much work to do in the workplace wellbeing arena. Every business, no matter its size, needs to take employee wellbeing seriously. Those with effective health and wellbeing strategies perform better than their competitors, both financially and in terms of market value. As a partner for wellbeing, here at Bupa, we’re continually improving our wellbeing offering, so our customers have the right tools and strategies in place to support their employees and their businesses."
