  • Bupa launches confidential online therapy
  • The service supports a wide range of mental health conditions including anxiety and depression
  • Anonymous data helps businesses deliver health and wellbeing programmes

Bupa UK has collaborated with SilverCloud Health to launch a brand new online Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).  The clinically-evidenced form of therapy will be offered through a fast and convenient service available to Bupa’s corporate clients.

Adding to Bupa’s existing service that supports corporate companies and their employees, the platform makes it easier for thousands of people to access CBT.  The programme is made up of a library of interactive and engaging programmes.  It is designed around the individual’s needs and is available 24/7, making it easier for someone to use it whenever they need it and includes 12 months unlimited access. A trained counsellor also offers support and guidance throughout the course of therapy which can improve long-term improvement.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a type of therapy focused on how thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect someone’s feelings and behaviour.  As a result it teaches coping skills for dealing with different problems.

Patrick Watt, Corporate Director at Bupa UK said: “Mental health issues are one of the key concerns facing the workplace today.  While addressing these issues is a priority for many businesses, very few people turn to their employer or colleagues for help. Online therapy is great way to support employees, being convenient and as effective as face-to-face therapy.

"Online CBT also has a fundamental benefit to employers as access to the anonymous data helps inform their health and wellbeing programmes.”

As part of an employee’s cover, they can contact a trained counsellor in confidence who will carry out an initial assessment, and if it is clinically appropriate online CBT will be recommended.  Alternative recommendations which are currently available to over 200,000 employees include telephone or face to face advice, support and therapy.

SilverCloud Health is a specialist in online personalised therapeutic programmes that are built on clinical expertise.  It has 10 years experience with leading mental health organisations to carry out research and testing.
