What activities am I covered for?

Before you go on your trip, it's important to know what sports and activities you're covered for. That’s why we’ve provided a breakdown of what you’re covered for based on when your policy started.

Here’s a selection of questions and answers that we’ve already helped our customers with

Classic policy: This policy does not offer the option to cover any pre-existing medical conditions.

Premier and Gold policies: We’ll ask you a few questions about any existing medical condition you, or anyone travelling with you, may have. We'll tell you if we can or can’t provide cover for these conditions and if an additional premium would be required. Then you can decide whether you want your policy to include them.

For all our policies: You do need to make sure that at the time of booking the trip and at the time of taking the trip you do not know of any reason why the trip could be cancelled. You must not travel against the advice of a medical practitioner or for the purpose of obtaining treatment, or undergoing investigations, tests or consultations abroad.

A pre-existing condition is defined as if you have ever suffered from any type of cancer, any heart, respiratory or circulatory conditions, any form of stroke or any terminal conditions. We would also ask for any details where in the last 24 months, you have received medical treatment, been prescribed any medication, been referred to or attended hospital or have been under investigation or are awaiting results for any undiagnosed condition or symptoms.

You can include children as long as they are under 18 when the policy starts, in full time education (cover will cease immediately if they’re no longer in full time education).

Where Family cover has been selected and paid for, any member of your family covered on the policy will be covered when travelling independently.

We can only sell you a policy up to three months in advance of the policy start date.

No, we don’t need this information as long as you make sure your Bupa travel insurance is up to date before you start your trip and that if covers your destination, any activities or sports, including any winter sports you may be planning to do. Please also let us know if there has been any changes to or any new medical conditions.

It’s packed with essential travel advice and tips, and up-to-date country-specific information. Please be aware that we don’t provide cover for travel to areas where the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has advised against all or all but essential travel.

Travel to or through Iran, Syria, Sudan, North Korea and US citizens travelling to Cuba.

Cover for trips in your country of residence is included on our Classic, Gold and Premier annual policies and available for single trips if requested. Please be aware that all trips must be for two or more consecutive nights and at least 50 miles from your home.

We provide cover for a number of activities on the Classic, Gold and Premier policies. Some of these activities are covered in full with no restrictions and some will have conditions and restrictions. Please see the activities section for a full list of activities that are covered by our policies.

However all activities are only covered on the following basis:

  • you have booked (where appropriate) with a fully licensed and reputable company
  • you have taken all necessary precautions and wear the correct protective clothing/eye wear for the activity you are undertaking
  • all activities are conducted on a non-professional, non-competitive and non-endurance basis ie no tournaments or matches

Winter sports: This cover is available as an optional upgrade on our single trip and annual policies. On annual policies winter sports is included up to 10 days on Classic, 17 days on Premier and 21 days on Gold. For single trips, this cover is available for the duration of the policy where selected.
