Sexual health services

  • We will share negative test results with you electronically. You will receive an email containing a link to our secure customer portal. You'll be able to see a summary of the results. In the case of a positive test result, we will contact you to arrange next steps to speak to one of our Bupa GPs. Once you’ve discussed next steps, you will be able to review the results via the secure customer portal.
  • If you test positive one of our team will contact you to book a follow up with a Bupa GP. They will discuss next steps with you and will offer the support of our contact tracing team (partner notification) if appropriate. Your results will then be available on our secure customer portal for you to view. On the portal you will also have access to a number to contact our Anytime HealthLine nursing team. They are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to offer support. This service will be available to those who test positive for one month from the date of their positive test.
  • Regular testing is important because it helps to pick up things early and reduce the spread of infections. The earlier something is diagnosed, the easier it is to treat and there is less likelihood of longstanding related health issues. It is recommended that everyone comes for regular sexual health testing at least once a year. This is even if you are in a committed relationship. You should get tested more frequently if you are under 25 or have multiple partners.
  • It is always advised to tell current and previous partners if you test positive for any STI. This is to prevent onward spread of infection. It also helps ensure these partners do not get any complications from infection. How far back you go will depend on the infection but your doctor will recommend the next steps. Notifying partners is a public health duty. However, you are under no obligation to do it except in certain very rare circumstances.
  • Before the appointment you will receive a link to a pre-appointment questionnaire (if you have chosen the GP Complete or GP Consultation). Please complete this as accurately as you can, as this will assist our team during your appointment. When you arrive at our centre, our team will welcome you and guide you where to wait for your appointment. One of our specially trained health advisers will then take you through to a private room where they will talk you through the tests they are going to do. They will also discuss with you how and when you will get your results, what the next steps will be and answer any questions you have. If you have booked an appointment that includes time with a Bupa GP, they will discuss any concerns or symptoms you have. And if necessary, they will do a clinical examination.
  • We will require your name, email address, contact phone number and payment details to secure your booking.
  • Please make an appointment as soon as possible and we can recommend the next steps with testing and treatment.
  • Not all infections show up straightaway after unprotected sex so you may need to wait to get an accurate test result. For example, with most bacterial infections (such as chlamydia and gonorrhoea) you should wait two weeks. Blood-borne infections (such as HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis) can be from 90 days. However, if you have symptoms of an STI, please book an appointment to get tested straightaway.
  • If you have communication difficulties, please arrange for an interpreter or signer to come with you. We can also offer you immediate telephone access to an interpretation service called Language Line during your appointment. You’ll be able to choose from over 200 languages and dialects.

If you have difficulties with your hearing or eyesight, please contact our bookings team on 0333 920 7604 and they’ll be able to let your clinic know how best to help you during your appointment.

If you have restricted mobility, please contact our bookings team on 0333 920 7604 and they can give you instructions about parking and/or access to the building.
