Direct Access - getting the right support right away
If you’re worried about cancer, mental health or a muscle, bone and joint condition, you may not need to see a GP before speaking to us. Call us immediately for clear advice on what to do next, and we may refer you to a specialist there and then. ††
Benefits of Direct Access
To use this service or check your eligibility, call us on 0800 028 8194^
There are some conditions where it's possible to get direct access to our support usually without the need for an appointment with your GP, helping you get back to good health as quickly as possible.
If you think you might have symptoms relating to cancer you can discuss these over the phone with one of our dedicated advisors, they can help you get over any worry or uncertainty more quickly. Depending on the nature of your symptoms they'll either refer you to a specialist for tests or advise you to contact your GP for further assessment.
If you are advised to see your GP, our advisors will offer to call you back within two weeks to give you further support if needed, helping put your mind at rest.
For support with a bad back, sore knee or any other muscle, bone and joint condition, give us a call.
If your symptoms are covered, we'll arrange for you to have a phone call with a physio-therapist.
You'll be able to discuss your symptoms with them, and they'll either give you a referral straight away or suggest some exercises you can do yourself such as digital home exercise programs to help improve your condition and getting you back to doing the things you love sooner.
If you're suffering with stress, anxiety, or any other mental health concern, we're here to listen.
Our specialist mental health advisors will arrange a telephone appointment with one of our of our mental wellbeing practitioners.
The practitioner will listen to you describe your symptoms and guide you to the most appropriate option to help.
If the symptoms are covered, it is likely to be either telephone counselling, online CBT, or a referral to an approved therapist, to give you the help and care you need to make a full recovery as quickly as possible.
Using direct access will not erode your outpatient benefit limits or require the payments of an excess.
However, if you require further consultations, tests or treatment, following the use of our Direct Access service, these will be treated as a normal claim under your policy for direct access to our support usually without the need to see a GP, please call our member services helpline to check your eligibility.
You'll find this number on your membership certificate.

Dental insurance
Your dental insurance gives you the freedom to stay on top of your oral health. It’s simple, flexible and easy to manage.
Here are just some of the advantages:
Up to 20% discount‡‡ on general dental treatment costs at selected Bupa owned and approved network dental practices.
No forms, no fuss claiming in participating practices in the Dental Insurance Network. As long as your treatment is covered under your policy you won’t need to pay up front and claim back later.†††
We cover the bigger issues too, from dental injuries and emergencies worldwide to oral cancer treatment in the UK. Please note, a six-month waiting period applies from the date of joining for oral cancer cover. Always call us if you need oral cancer treatment, as this needs to be pre-authorised before receiving any treatment.
Your membership guide and certificate should be read and then kept together. Before you have any treatment, it’s important to check these documents to see what you're covered for and the maximum amount you can claim up to per person, per policy year. Section 3 (Policy Terms) of your membership guide shows full details of what is and isn’t covered, and any limitations on cover by treatment type.
Please note, not all Bupa Dental Care practices are part of the Bupa Dental Insurance Network.
