Declan Leonard

Physiotherapist at Bupa UK

Declan started his studies in Ireland, completing a Higher National Certificate in Applied Physiology and Health Science, before going on to graduate from the University of Huddersfield in 2008 with a degree in Physiotherapy. Following this, he embarked on his junior rotations in the NHS in a large teaching trust in Birmingham. This provided him with a wide range of experience across a multitude of specialist medical areas before allowing him to hone in on his favoured area of expertise in musculoskeletal physiotherapy.

Declan built up extensive experience in private healthcare in both hospital ward and outpatient settings. He developed extensive skills in assessment and treatment of all conditions and completed further study in taping, acupuncture and Pilates.

Declan's main area of interest is in sporting injuries and so he went on to complete an MSc. in Sport and Exercise Physiotherapy at Cardiff University. Declan has taken his skills into the sporting field working with Rugby, Gaelic sports, athletics, CrossFit and his personal favourite Mixed Martial Arts. Declan is currently based part-time at the Nottingham Bupa Clinic, where he sees clients on a 1:1 basis and is developing a Pilates service with classes set to run on site.

Declan is a keen fitness enthusiast and regular gym goer, but his main sport of interest is Mixed Martial Arts, both as a fan and practitioner himself. He also enjoys travelling when he can with road trips along the U.S. east and west coasts done and more excursions planned in the future.
