Bupa Introduces Weight Management Plan to Support UK Workforces

Bupa offers Weight Management Plan to health insurance customers

  • Bupa has announced that its UK health insurance customers will have access to a comprehensive Weight Management Plan.
  • Businesses can choose to offer the plan to their employees in one of three ways: employee funded, partially funded, or fully funded.
  • Eligible Consumer and SME customers benefit from a free initial remote GP consultation worth £99 and 10% off the ongoing monthly costs of the Bupa Weight Management Plan.

Bupa’s Weight Management Plan provides customers with wraparound clinical and lifestyle support, including GP consultations, tailored health programmes and lifestyle coaching, alongside access to weight loss medication where clinically appropriate.

The service is delivered through Bupa Health Clinics, ensuring a seamless and joined-up healthcare experience, with additional support including 24/7 access to a nurse via Bupa’s Anytime Healthline, and a GP review at six months.

The initial GP consultation, which assesses a customer’s suitability for the Weight Management Plan, typically costs £99 and will be waived for eligible Bupa Consumer and SME health insurance customers. During this appointment, the GP will assess the customer’s BMI and any weight-related health conditions to determine if they are clinically appropriate for the weight loss journey.

If suitable, these customers will get 10% off the monthly cost of their Weight Management Plan including the wrap-around support from Bupa Health Clinics.

Bupa corporate customers will have the option to enhance their employee health insurance schemes to fully cover access to weight management services and the cost of medications from January 2026 policy renewals – a first for a UK health insurer. Bupa can also offer a range of solutions to help businesses make the Weight Management Plan more accessible for their employees.

The need for effective support is underscored by the latest government data, which shows that 64.5% of adults in England are overweight or living with obesity, and 26.5% are living with obesity. Bupa research found that while half of UK adults do not know their current weight, weight management was the top health goal for 2025.

Dr Robin Clark, Medical Director for Bupa Insurance said: “Obesity is one of the biggest health challenges facing the UK today. By offering access to expert clinical care, treatment and coaching, we’re helping people take control of their health and reduce their risk of serious conditions like diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

“We know that sustainable weight loss requires more than just willpower, it takes the right support, tools and clinical guidance. That’s why our approach combines trusted medical expertise, personalised coaching and weight loss medication where appropriate. Together, these elements empower people to make lasting improvements to their health and achieve the best possible results.”

This expansion follows the successful launch of the Weight Management Plan to Bupa Health Clinics self-pay customers in 2023, which has seen high demand and strong outcomes.
