Dental insurance changes 2023

24 July 2023

We’ve enhanced our dental cover to better support your employees

At Bupa we are continually evolving our dental products to help you build a healthier, happier, and more productive workforce.

As a cash back product, Bupa dental Insurance provides a contribution towards worldwide preventative and restorative treatment up to benefit allowances. It also provides cover for orthodontic treatment, dental injury, emergency, and oral cancer giving your employees an affordable option to fund dental treatment.

Over the last 12 months we’ve made some innovative product changes to Dental Plan and Dental Choice which has allowed customers to claim even more cashback towards restorative dental treatment and from September 2023 we are also increasing preventative limits across all levels of cover. 7 in 10 claims are for preventative treatment which will mean your employees will get a greater amount of cashback towards a check-up and scale & polish.

Below we have outlined the full details of all the changes we are making from September 2023 and reminder of the innovative changes we made in September 2022.

Changes from September 2023

We know how important preventive oral health habits, such as regular dental check-ups and good oral hygiene, can be to our overall health and wellbeing. Detecting problems early can mean they're easier to treat. We’ve increased routine examination and scale & polish benefits on Dental Plan and Dental Choice policies and have also increased the new patient benefit on Dental Choice. This means customers can claim more cashback towards their dental treatment, up to benefit allowances, and will get even more value from their product.

The tables at the bottom of this page show the increases to benefit allowances and uplift (effective from September 2023).

Yet again we continue to evolve our products to maintain a market leading position. Here’s a reminder of product changes from September 2022

2022 saw significant changes made to our Dental Plan and Dental Choice policies, driven by customer feedback and maintaining a market leading position. Here’s a reminder of how we improved our cover in 2022:

  • We removed the wait period for our oral cancer cover on our business products. We’re the only leading insurer to offer unlimited oral cancer treatment, when using a fee-assured consultant in a partnership facility.
  • For our Dental Plan customers, we separated the filling and root canal benefits, so customers can claim more cash-back towards these treatments.
  • For our Dental Choice customers, we introduced a top level of cover (Choice 5) and we increased over 30 benefit allowances helping to improve product value for our customers.
  • We extended our cover to include hospital treatment which is paid up to benefit allowances.

BDC network

As well as all the improvements we continually make to our products, we also unite dental insurance with over 360 Bupa-owned dental practices across the UK. Giving us extensive coverage to get your employees help fast. If using a Bupa dental practice offering Instant Claim customers can receive benefits such as member discounts and smoother claiming journeys with Instant Claim. Instant Claim offers easy, fast, and hassle-free claiming. After treatment, the receptionist sends the claim to us, and we’ll pay the practice directly – up to the policy benefit allowances.

Our dedicated online tool Finder lets your employees search for their nearest Bupa dental care practice and see what benefits and discounts they offer. It is also now possible for your employees to secure their next routine or hygiene appointment online. Click ‘Book an appointment’ to plan your visit, subject to availability.

The Bupa dental care support line also helps your employees access advice fast over the phone or support in finding appointments at a Bupa Dental Care practice if necessary.
