Option to transfer from a small business group health insurance policy to a personal policy at renewal

At renewal, if your clients have only one main member covered on their Select small business health insurance policy, they can renew their group cover as normal. Alternatively, the main member and any dependants* can transfer to a Bupa personal policy. This will be possible for SME Select policies with contract renewal dates from 1 June 2024 onwards.

When transferring to a Bupa personal policy, the main member and any dependants * can continue to have uninterrupted cover so long as they meet some eligibility criteria which can be found in answer to question 2 in the FAQs.

If they qualify for uninterrupted cover, while their new Bupa personal health insurance may not be exactly the same as their group policy, they could still be covered for any ongoing or existing conditions they have, depending on their new policy’s terms and conditions.

If they don’t qualify for uninterrupted cover, their new Bupa personal policy won’t cover any existing or ongoing conditions that the main member or any dependants may have.

If your client prefers to contact us directly:

  • please ask the main member to call our Direct Personal Sales team on 0161 8207 833** and ask for a quote to be transferred from their group policy to a Bupa personal one
  • our personal healthcare consultants will provide a quote and explain the next steps to set-up the new policy

If the main member transfers to a personal policy, you’ll need to ask our SME Intermediary Existing Business team to close your client’s group policy. Please call them on 0800 332 000 (option 3)** and they’ll be happy to help.
