How to have a happy 2023, according to local care home residents

01 February 2023

Residents at Lindley Grange Bupa Care Home have shared their New Year’s resolutions in a bid to make 2023 the best year yet for younger generations through their words of wisdom.

Rebecca Crowe, Activity Coordinator at Lindley Grange, set up the activity to help boost morale among the residents and inspire the younger generation. Residents’ advice varied from small acts of kindness to making sure to try new things and make others smile.

One resident, Malcom Jessop, aged 86, commented: “Just keep trying and one day you will become the person you wish to be and will live the life you dream to live.”

Residents and friends Angela Gill, aged 90, Louise Flower, aged 61, and James Michael Rogers, aged 86, agree that key advice for this year is to just keep going. Angela added: “No matter what life throws at you, there’s no point in sulking, you have to just keep going.”

Meanwhile, House keeper Winnie West, commented: “It is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice.”

Fellow resident June Longley aged 89, echoed her fellow resident’s sentiment in being nice to others. She commented: “In a world, where you can be anything, always be kind.”

When resident Helen Johnson, aged 88 was asked what her New Year’s resolution is, she commented: “This year I’m just going to go for it! I’m willing to try new things, even if they seem tricky or daunting at first.”

Julie Parker, Home Manager at Lindley Grange, commented: “I’m really inspired by the advice that our residents have shared through their New Year’s resolutions, and encourage the younger generation to take heed of their pearls of wisdom. I think it’s important to listen to them and as Malcom fittingly put it – just keep trying and one day you’ll become the person you want to be and live the life you dream to live – manifestation is key!”

Lindley Grange looks forward to seeing the residents put their New Year’s resolutions into action over the coming months.
