CARE HOME STAFF TAKE PART IN SPONSORED MEMORY WALK IN AID OF ALZHEIMER’S SOCIETY

24 January 2023

Charlotte Lamb and Irina Varasciuc, two of the care home team at Chilton Meadows Bupa Care Home in Stowmarket, have recently taken part in a sponsored Memory Walk from Stowmarket to Ipswich and back in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.

The duo set off at 7.30am and walked 26 miles in just over eight hours, completing an astonishing 55,960 steps. They were inspired to take on the challenge of the walk to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society, the research charity for people with dementia and their carers, as part of the charity’s Memory Walk initiative which sees thousands of people across the UK walk to give anyone living with dementia the support they deserve. For both Charlotte and Irina, it is a charity that is incredibly close to their hearts both in and outside of work.

Charlotte and Irina’s fundraising efforts saw the pair raise £700, an amount which has been matched by the Bupa Foundation, taking the total to £1,400.

When asked about their achievement, Charlotte, Unit Manager at Chilton Meadows, commented: “I am very proud of myself and Irina. It is the biggest challenge I have ever completed. We had so much support from family, friends, colleagues, and residents and to have some of them there at the finish line meant so much.”

Irina, Senior Care Assistant at Chilton Meadows, commented: “It felt so good to challenge myself in a way I haven’t before. When we started, I don’t think I realised how far we were really walking, it felt amazing to do something for such an incredible cause.”

Chilton Meadows Bupa Care Home’s Home Manager, Amanda Delabruyere, commented: “We are so proud of Charlotte and Irina, they have raised an incredible amount of money for a charity that means a lot to us here at Chilton Meadows. Our residents have been so excited in the lead up and on the day of their fantastic achievement.”

Amanda continued “It is also brilliant to see the support from the Bupa Foundation too – all those funds raised will make such a difference for people living with dementia here in the UK.”

Charlotte and Irina plan on doing more charity work in the coming weeks and months and are looking forward to chatting to the residents about what charities they most want to support.
