Betty's 100th birthday celebration at Goldbridge Care Home

Betty Becker, resident at The Goldbridge Bupa Care Home, has recently celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by her loving family and friends..
Betty kick started her birthday celebrations early at the care home with a visit from local entertainer, David Harris, who sang Betty’s favourite wartime songs for residents in the lounge. Betty’s family then joined her on the big day itself for a delicious birthday feast including an array of gourmet sandwiches and wraps followed by the most beautifully elegant birthday cake.
The celebrations were enjoyed by all, particularly Betty who enjoyed a glass of her favourite tipple, sherry When asked how it felt to be turning 100, Betty commented: “I’ve had a wonderful time celebrating my 100th birthday. I count myself lucky to have reached this milestone. My advice would be to make the most of your time, as you never know what’s around the corner.”
Home Manager at The Goldbridge, Hasib Khan, added: “It has been lovely celebrating Betty’s 100th birthday. We were all thoroughly entertained by David, and we were delighted to be able to host her family for the celebrations on her special day.”
Betty was born and raised in Torquay, Devon with her mother and father. In 1939, Betty got married to her late husband and moved to Richmond, London.
Betty has always had a passion for dancing and joined the ENSA (Entertainment National Service Association), where she toured the UK keeping up morale for the troops. She also went over to France only three days after D-day to entertain the troops.
After the war, Betty returned to Richmond and had a daughter. She went on to work at The Daily Express as a front of house receptionist, meeting and greeting well-known stars, including royalty. Betty is now a proud grandmother to five grandchildren and enjoys spending time with fellow residents over lunch in the dining room or at the occasional exercise class.
