Bupa Care Homes give Glastonbury a run for its money

16 September 2024

As festival season gets into full swing, Bupa Care Homes from across the UK, have become unlikely editions to this year’s summer lineup with more than 50 homes participating in events, dubbed collectively as Bupa Fest.

The care homes have been opening their doors to their local communities and entertaining residents and guests with an impressive bill of upwards of 120 local acts and artists, including aerial hoop artists, magicians, drag acts, choirs, singers and instrumentalists.

Bupafest has seen residents and staff alike don flamboyant outfits – synonymous with music festivals while attendees have also enjoyed an impressive spread of homemade treats and savouries from the care homes’ kitchen teams.

Doreen Hunt, 93-year-old resident from Shockerwick House Bupa Care Home, commented: “It was a fantastic event. I loved the music, and it was great fun to have a dance and a singalong.”

Rebecca Pearson, General Manager at Bupa, added: “We always strive to make life in our care homes as fun and fulfilling as possible, and what better way to signal the start of summer than with getting into the festival spirit.

“Listening to our favourite music makes us all feel better but it also carries a number of health benefits including boosting mood and stimulating memory. Our homes across the country have been delighted to welcome local communities, friends and families to join in with their local Bupa Fest events, it was a joyful weekend for all homes, residents and teams involved.”

“It’s our ambition to create events which foster a fun and engaging environment for our residents and after the success of Bupa Fest, we’re looking forward to hosting further activities in the coming months.”
