Huddersfield care home residents enjoy visits from local nursery

Lindley Grange Bupa Care Home residents have been enjoying fortnightly visits from a local nursery, Nightingales.
During the visits, the residents and children participate in a variety of activities together, including games, arts and crafts, singing, reading and baking.
The collaboration has been blooming over the last 4 years, forming a great relationship between Lindley Grange and Nightingales, with both parties visiting each other twice a month. The visits are welcomed by the residents and children, providing connection and boosting moods for Lindley Grange’s residents, while educating and entertaining the children.
Home manager, Julie Parker, commented: “These visits mean a great deal to our residents here at Lindley Grange. They learn so much from spending time with the children, and the children learn from them too. It is a pleasure to watch them socialise with one another and build relationships, always smiling and laughing.”
When asked about the most recent visit, resident, Barbara Taylor, said: “I always look forward to seeing the children, it brightens my week. They are very well behaved, polite and make us laugh with their interesting stories.”
Nursery director, Emily Travers, added: “These visits have helped to improve the children’s communication and language skills as well as having a positive impact on their social development and confidence. During these sessions the residents and children both thrive; it’s a pleasure to work with Lindley Grange.”
In December, children from Nightingales visited Lindley Grange to perform their Christmas nativity for the residents, following a special invitation.
Intergenerational care has many benefits for both residents and students, Lindley Grange is excited to continue its partnership with Nightingales in 2025.
