Six care homes team up to raise money for cancer research

07 August 2025

Twenty-one staff members from across six Bupa care homes have joined forces to raise over £4,000 for Cancer Research UK.

The team of carers climbed 6.4km to the summit of Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons and included team members from across Elm Grove, Trowbridge Oaks, Ashley House, St Mark’s, Elm View and Druid Stoke Bupa care homes.

The staff embarked on their climb in May and raised over £2,000, which Bupa matched, resulting in over £4,000 donated to the chosen charity.

Alex Bowman, regional support manager at Bupa Care Services, commented: “Cancer Research UK is a charity which is particularly close to the hearts of those at Bupa. Devastatingly, we have had several staff members who have been affected by cancer this year, including my best friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer.

“The homes all rallied together to support the staff who bravely embarked on the walk to Pen Y Fan summit. We are so proud of their determination and fundraising efforts.”

Bupa Care Homes welcome residents in need of nursing or residential care including those living with dementia and Parkinson’s. For further information, please visit https://www.bupa.co.uk/care-services
