Product updates
Important updates to Bupa Dental insurance products from 1 December 2026
We're introducing a range of enhancements to our Dental Plan and Dental Choice products for new business and renewals from 1 December 2026. The changes are designed to deliver greater value for customers, simplify cover and improve understanding of benefits.
Key enhancements to Dental Plan
For customers with Dental Plan All Included cover, X-rays at Bupa Dental Care practices will now be covered in full, even when their annual X-ray allowance has been exhausted.
We've also:
- Increased benefit allowances on all levels of cover for scale and polish appointments and X-rays.
- Benefit allowances for fillings have increased across all levels of cover.
- Dental scans will now be covered through the major restorative allowance.
- We’ve improved how much we pay per emergency across all levels of cover. Members can now claim for up to £500 for each emergency and can claim for two emergencies in each policy year.
- Eligible NHS treatment is now fully covered up to NHS band limits across all levels of cover.
Key enhancements to Dental Choice
We’ve also been working to make Dental Choice cover even better and have made the following changes:
- Increased benefit allowances for preventive treatment. That’s bigger allowances for routine examinations across all levels, and an increase to scale and polishes across Choice 1 to 4.
- We’ve simplified our X-ray benefit, including increasing benefit allowances across all levels of cover, and making our descriptions in the table of cover clearer.
- The Inlay, Onlay and Porcelain veneer benefits that were previously per tooth and per course of treatment each now come with a single annual allowance, making it easier to understand what’s covered on the policy. We’ve also increased the benefit allowances.
- We’ve combined the crown and bridge benefits into one annual allowance at the higher cover limit. Posts and repairs are now included.
- We’ve increased how much we pay per emergency across all levels of cover. They can now claim for up to £500 for each emergency and can claim for two emergencies in each policy year.
- Eligible NHS treatment is now fully covered up to NHS band limits across all levels of cover.
Broader policy cover
We're also enhancing our policy terms by:
- Covering prescription charges prescribed by a dental professional.
- Providing cover for replacement lost or stolen dentures.
- Expanding support for specialist dental devices for children.
- Updating sports injury wording relating to mouthguard use during contact sports.
