Care home residents raise money for local charity
Care home residents and staff at Premier Court Bupa Care Home in Bishop’s Stortford have raised money for Cards for Bravery, an organisation dedicated to brightening the days of hospitalised and seriously ill children through the distribution of uplifting handmade cards.
Premier Court’s fundraising activities have seen the residents have a great time coming up with innovative ways to fundraise. From selling handmade greeting cards to tombolas and raffles, the team’s efforts have resulted in £300 being raised for the local charity.
When asked why the team decided to fundraise for Cards for Bravery, Jane Holly, Activities Co-ordinator at Premier Court, commented: “One of our beloved past residents, Mary Gillies, always used to speak about her inspirational granddaughter Katie, who had set up a charity to spark joy for children spending time in hospital. We met Katie when she visited and were all amazed by her work. It seemed obvious that we would focus our fundraising activities on her brilliant charity, in memory of her grandmother.”
Since her grandmother passed away, Katie has continued to have a close relationship with the residents of Premier Court, hosting regular card making sessions for the residents. Inspired by her enthusiasm, the residents of Premier Court were thrilled to raise money for children who are going through tough and isolated times. Sue, 81, a resident of Premier Court, commented: “It has been lots of fun doing the fundraising and I am so glad we have raised money for children in hospital. What a lovely cause.”
Cards for Bravery will be using the funds donated by Premier Court Bupa Care Home to create card making activity packs, that will be delivered to children in hospital.
Andrew Stoner, Home Manager at Premier Court, added: “I am so proud of our residents and staff for all their hard work in raising money for Cards for Bravery. It epitomises the wonderful community we have here at Premier Court Bupa Care Home.”
