Colonia Court Care Home achieves good CQC rating

11 April 2023

Colonia Court Bupa Care Home in Colchester has recently achieved a ‘Good’ Care Quality Commission Rating (CQC) following a recent inspection.

The home was commended for its ability to provide care that promotes good quality of life for residents, with the leadership team at the home praised for creating a culture of high-quality, person-centred care.

The inspection was carried out by four inspectors and two Experts by Experience, who spoke with residents, relatives, and members of staff about their experience of the care provided.

Inspectors also noted the responsiveness of Colonia Court’s staff, commending their ability to meet different people’s needs and giving control and choice in day-to-day lives. Activities were described as ‘person-centred’ and were adapted to individual preferences, based on what was important to them.

For instance, one resident never had the opportunity to receive their medals when they were in the RAF, so for their 99th birthday staff arranged for a representative from the RAF to come and present the medals to the person during an award ceremony hosted by the service.

Residents were reported to look ‘happy, relaxed and comfortable’ within their environment with staff forming trusting and positive relationships with people they cared for.

One resident’s relative praised the staff, commenting: “It is like a family, everyone knows you. It is very friendly and welcoming.”

Another relative said: "The best thing is the friendly staff and the information I have been given, staff always listen to me if I suggest anything, they are so good with my [family member] and they help us to communicate virtually."

Jiji George, Home Manager at Colonia Court Bupa Care Home, commented: “We are delighted to have achieved this ‘Good’ status and glowing report. It is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and commitment of the team at Colonia Court, who always strive for the best quality of life possible for our residents.”
