Care home joined by local schoolchildren for afternoon of arts and crafts

03 May 2023

Residents at Norewood Lodge Bupa Care Home were recently joined by local schoolchildren for an afternoon arts therapy session.

The session was organised by Deborah Safi, Activity Co-ordinator, and High Down Junior School, who came up with the idea of Paint Pals; an intergenerational scheme that brings younger and older people together for visits and creative activities run by teachers at High Down.

Everyone in attendance had a wonderful time painting and colouring together producing artistic creations from postcards to paintings, as well as enjoying treats such as tea and biscuits.

One resident Barbara, aged 77, commented: “I had a lovely time with the children, it was great to be painting and talking to them about different things. They were very polite and were very keen to have such lovely chats with me. I look forward to seeing them again soon for more arts and crafts sessions.”

Another resident, Brenda, aged 90, commented: “I had a great time, I absolutely love painting and spending time with the youngsters, it really did make my day. They are so bubbly and talkative; it was a fantastic day.”

Lynne Millward, Home Manager commented: “We had a wonderful afternoon with Paint Pals and the children from High Down Junior School. It was lovely to welcome them and the residents were overjoyed to spend time with the children. Intergenerational activities have incredible benefits for both younger and older generations.”

Staff and residents at Norewood Lodge are looking forward to more visits from Paint Pals and High Down Junior School over the coming weeks and months.
