Care home residents and staff reminisce on memories of meeting King Charles
Residents at Leominster Bupa Care Home have enjoyed celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III over the bank holiday weekend, marking the occasion with a trip down memory lane.
The care home has a special connection to King Charles III, who visited the care home as his former Nanny was a resident there in 1999. During his visit, a number of residents and staff members met King Charles III.
To celebrate the Coronation, a party was organised for residents and their families to enjoy together; complete with a buffet including a Coronation quiche.
Residents and staff were also invited to share their advice for the new King and Queen.
One resident, Anne Wilder, aged 86, shared her advice for King Charles III: “Keep going, he has done such a fantastic job over the years with the Prince’s Trust and the environmental work he carries out.”
Another resident, Maurice Tilley, aged 83: “My advice for the King would be to put his feet up and enjoy time with his family with a nice meal. I met the King and Queen at a church in Lostwithiel, Cornwall, in 2010 as we had raised lots of funds for restoration of the local church. He came to look at the work done and I spoke to them at length. They were both were very warm and friendly.”
Meanwhile, resident Irene Causley, aged 100, said: “I would advise King Charles III to carry on in his mother’s footsteps.”
Vivienne Jaine, Activity Co-ordinator at Leominster commented: “It was wonderful to celebrate King Charles Coronation with our residents and their families. Especially after having the pleasure of meeting him in 1999! My greatest memory of the day was the joy of our residents looking up and the warmth and kindness he showed them all radiated through the room. It is a memory that will stay with me forever!”
