Care home resident fulfils life-long dream to hold baby lambs

26 May 2023

Local care home resident, Margaret Barlow, recently enjoyed a visit to a farm in Warwick to hold and feed baby lambs, which was organised by the team at The Priory Bupa Care Home.

After Margaret shared her long-standing wish to hold lambs with Penny, her niece, and carers at The Priory, they arranged the trip at the request of Penny as part of Bupa’s #Nevertoolate initiative, which enables residents to experience new things at any age.

During the recent visit to Moreton Morrell College farm, where a variety of farm animals are cared for, the 82-year-old was accompanied by her carers and they all had the opportunity to spend the day feeding and holding the newborn lambs.

Margaret was filled with excitement about her visit, and she commented: “It was amazing to be able to visit the farm, it has been a dream since I was little to be able to hold and feed baby lambs. I loved seeing all the children visiting with their families in little wellies.”

Katie McCauley, Home Manager at The Priory Bupa Care Home, commented: “It was a pleasure to be able to arrange for Margaret to go to the farm and have the opportunity to fulfil her wish to hold and feed lambs. It was with joy to be able to make Margaret’s wish possible through Bupa’s #NeverTooLate initiative.”

Staff at The Priory are looking forward to making the most of Bupa’s initiative to plan more exciting activities for other residents soon.

The Priory Bupa Care Home is situated in Shirley and welcomes residents in need of nursing or residential care including those living with Parkinson’s. For further information, please visit https://www.bupa.co.uk/care-services
