Residents at The Donnington Bupa Care Home were recently treated to a visit from Berkshire Birds of Prey who brought a variety of the magnificent animals to the home for a special visit.
Several owls and a kestrel visited the Newbury care home where staff and residents had enormous fun interacting with the birds from the comfort of their armchairs. This heartwarming experience brought smiles to the faces of the residents as they held their feathered visitors.
Home Manager Tania Mosdell said: “Many of our residents were looking forward to their visit and it did not disappoint. They all loved holding the birds and learning new facts about them. These types of activities help improve the concentration and memory of our residents.”
Resident Doreen Strange, aged 88, said: “It was such a lovely day, I couldn’t believe I got to hold the birds of prey. They were amazing.”
The experience of holding a bird on either a gloved arm or by the use of a mangler for certain individuals, evokes a sense of wonder and awe, allowing residents to reconnect with the world around them, reducing stress and improving well-being.
