Care home residents collaborate on unified painting

Residents at Wingham Court Bupa Care Home have created a remarkable collaborative interpretation of Klimt’s ‘Woman in Gold’ portrait.
Thirty residents produced forty-eight unique canvases, incorporating Art Nouveau elements, using gold paint, metallic colours, foils and decorative papers. Residents worked together to create an impressive 150cm x 158cm painting.
The artwork was unveiled to residents, staff, friends and family with a gold-themed party including spotlights, music and gold cupcakes. Residents were delighted that the painting was so well received by the public when uploaded to a professional art platform.
Tina Phillips, creative arts facilitator at Wingham Court, said: “Our residents love creating art and working collaboratively – I am so proud of what they’ve achieved. Everyone is looking forward to future opportunities to create and showcase their wonderful art.”
Home manager, Claire Hooper, added: “This project significantly boosted residents’ well-being and sense of achievement – only made possible by the amazing support team here. This artwork demonstrates the power of our community.
“As a rehabilitation home, we offer 24-hour care and support for those living with complex needs and long-term neurological conditions. Art is something that our residents love and we are proud to encourage and help them create projects they are passionate about.”
The painting is displayed in the Wingham Art Ash Lounge and will eventually return to a light-filled permanent location.
