Care home hosts series of summer performances on roof terrace for residents
A care home in Brighton is making the most of its stunning rooftop terrace having played host to two fantastic summer performances from violinist Sarah Milner and the Patcham Silver Band in the last month.
Residents from Dean Wood Bupa Care Home were most recently treated to an afternoon of classic songs from The Patcham Silver Band last weekend where they had plenty of opportunities to sing along and tap their feet, and even enjoy a dance in the sunshine – with more in the pipeline this August.
With the residents making the most of their rooftop terrace this summer, which is thought to be the biggest South facing roof terrace in the area and offers uninterrupted views right down to the coast, the care home set to host further outdoor performances and entertainment on the roof terrace. This includes a further performance of violinist Sarah Milner on 11 August, Skittles with Nick on 18 August, Woodstock Day to celebrate music of the 1960s and 70s with a performance from Charlotte Songbird on 21 August – complete with residents dressing up, and finally the Naked Choir singing a cappella on 22 August.
The roof terrace has proved to be a welcoming space for residents and their guests to enjoy, whether over a cuppa or using it for exercise. It provides a flat and safe outdoor space featuring comfortable seating, landscaped planting, a glass balustrade to protect from the wind and anti-slip soft rubber flooring with a bounce in it.
Julie Mullen, Resident Experience Manager at Dean Wood, said: "With views across the golf course and stretching to the sea, the rooftop terrace is an asset that enhances the care home experience for residents and their visitors.
“Residents can benefit from fresh sea air and exercise, families can enjoy spending time there with loved ones, and it gives visiting children space to run around. The care home offers amazing outside spaces and balconies off each dining room and lounge, bringing the outside in, and we hope the residents enjoy the various events that are coming up so that they can really make the most of the outdoor space during this good weather.”
Dean Wood Bupa Care Home is situated on Warren Road, Woodingdean in Brighton and welcomes residents in need of nursing or residential care including those living with dementia and Parkinson’s. For further information, please visit https://www.bupa.co.uk/care-services
