Residents score ultimate day trip to Altrincham FC

01 August 2024

Two residents at Brookview Bupa Care Home have been treated to a trip down memory lane, with a visit to Altrincham Football Club.

Football-mad Ann Wilshaw has lived at Brookview for 2 years and often talks about her time volunteering at the Cheshire club with her late husband, Derek.

After reminiscing with Home Manager Sharon Helliwell Short about her time at the local club, Sharon reached out to arrange a visit. The club were delighted to hear from her, as many remember Ann well.

Sharon, alongside Brookview’s activity coordinator, Joanne Hooper, and a fellow resident and friend, Christina Walker, accompanied Ann on her return to the club. Upon arrival, they were welcomed to a table in the hospitality lounge and gifted Ann with a scarf as a memento.

Following the trip, Ann said: “I want to thank the team for organising such a special event. It brought back many memories from years past and it made my day.”

Sharon Helliwell Short added: “It was a really special day. You could tell it meant the world to Ann to see her local club again. I’m very proud to say we played a part in making this a reality for her. I want to say a huge thank you to the team at Altrincham FC, as they were so accommodating and excited to welcome Ann back.”
