Bikers from across yorkshire pay visit to care home
Lindley Grange Bupa Care Home hosted an event at their home in Huddersfield on Saturday 29th June where bikers across Yorkshire came together to entertain residents.
Amy Hemmings, a housekeeper at Lindley Grange, came up with the idea as a way to connect the residents with their local community. With the support of Rebecca Hirst, Activities Coordinator, the pair set to organising the event.
Amy reached out to her connections and posted on a Facebook community page where she received an overwhelming response. Over 40 motorbikes turned up for the event, including PC Hopson from West Yorkshire Police, who arrived on his police bike, showing it to the residents and visitors from the local community.
The event was a particular hit for resident Deana, who said it reminded her of her time living in America. Deana commented: “I lived in America for several years, and one bike in particular, an Indian Motorcycle, I would see all over the country. It was exciting to see the bike visit Lindley Grange and it brought back memories.”
The home provided hotdogs and drinks for the residents, bikers, and community to enjoy.
Amy Hemmings, Lindley Grange Housekeeper commented: “Seeing the residents smiling and having fun looking at all the bikes and conversing with the riders was heartwarming. One resident sat out all afternoon for the event and loved every second.
“I just want to say a huge thank you to the team at Lindley Grange for helping me to organise the event. Of course, the biggest thank you goes to the bikers who attended and made the day perfect for our residents and community members.”
Rebecca Hirst, Activities Coordinator, added: “It was beautiful to see the event come together, the atmosphere was spectacular. One of our residents, Deana, who has spent a lot of time in America in the past, loved being reminded of those times seeing American bikes at the event.”
The event was such a success the care home intends to host it yearly.
