Southampton care home celebrates ‘Good’ CQC rating

Maypole Bupa Care Home has thrown a celebratory party after being rated as ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), following its latest inspection.
Staff, residents and family members came together for refreshments in the home’s gardens and had live music from local entertainers Utter Buskers to celebrate the team’s continued commitment to offering a high-standard of care.
The CQC report assessed Maypole as 'Good' in all areas: safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
Maypole Bupa Care Home, which provides nursing and personal care for up to 68 residents, was praised for its risk management, proactive and positive culture of safety, hygiene standards, food offering and support and wellbeing of staff.
During the inspection, the CQC inspection team spoke to residents, staff, healthcare professionals and relatives to get their feedback on the service.
Inspectors reported receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback about the home’s manager from staff and relatives. Residents and their relatives were positive about the quality of care. The inspectors reported they felt safe and received good quality care from knowledgeable staff who treated them as individuals.
One resident said: “The people who work here are delightful, some are exceptional. I’ve been cared for beautifully and I’m very happy here.”
Residents also shared that the home has activities to keep them physically and mentally active, including quizzes, board games, music events and arts and crafts.
Relatives of those in the care home also expressed their satisfaction, stating they were confident that any concerns would be swiftly dealt with and improvements promptly made.
Feedback from relatives included: "If I phone to ask about something, I always get a good response.”
Home Manager, Raymond Arnold, said: "The whole team here at Maypole are delighted to retain Good status by the CQC. It is a testament to the hard work, dedication and commitment of the team at Maypole. We hosted a party to celebrate the news, and share our thanks to our residents, staff and their families for helping shape Maypole into the wonderful home it is.”
