Donkeys delight care home residents

Residents at Elm View Bupa Care Home were recently treated to a visit from Kelly’s Donkeys who brought Charlie the donkey to the home for them to enjoy.

Charlie spent a sunny afternoon at the Clevedon care home where staff and residents had enormous fun stroking, and even feeding him a few carrots, from the comfort of their armchairs. This heartwarming experience brought smiles to the faces of the residents as they petted their furry visitor.

Activities Coordinator Amanda said, “I’ve been trying to get a donkey in for a visit for a while and it was great to finally have Kelly’s Donkeys bring Charlie to see us. The residents love it when animals visit, and we’re thrilled to make such beautiful memories for them.”

Resident, Tom Knight said, “He was lovely, docile and delightful. I was really surprised to see the donkey. I was told he was coming but I didn’t believe it. He was so cute.”

While resident, Joyce Rogers added, “I thought it was lovely and would’ve liked more food to give him. He didn’t talk to me unless I had carrots. It was a bit of cupboard love!”

Pet therapy offers significant benefits for care home residents, as stroking the animals triggers the release of endorphins that provide calming effect.
