Harrogate resident celebrates 100th birthday

Freda Ward recently celebrated her 100th birthday at Southlands Bupa Care Home, surrounded by her friends and family.
To mark the special occasion, staff at Southlands decorated the home with balloons, and discussed historic events of the year she was born. The homes’ Chef made Freda a delicious birthday cake for her to enjoy with family and friends. The birthday girl also enjoyed a trip out to indulge in her favourite food, fish and chips.
Born in Hull in 1925, Freda had three children, Michael, Roger and Lesley, who have now all had children of their own. Throughout her life, Freda enjoyed many hobbies, including knitting, sewing, and exercising, and worked as an usher in her local cinema.
When asked her secret to living a long, happy, and healthy life, Freda said: “Good food, exercise and a happy marriage is the key to life!”
Home manager at Southlands Bupa Care Home, Susan Sowden, commented: “It was lovely celebrating Freda’s special day, she couldn’t stop smiling, especially after going out with her family for fish and chips. We always want our residents to feel extra special on their birthday, especially those celebrating a milestone year.”
