Wilmslow resident marks 100th birthday

Yolanda Atherton recently celebrated her 100th birthday at Hazelmere House Bupa Care Home.
To honour the special occasion staff at Hazelmere House in Wilmslow arranged a special day for Yolanda. The home invited her family for an afternoon tea and organised for one of the residents’ favourite singers, Paul Bryan, to perform.
Yolanda’s family also arranged a birthday party at a local hotel, The Stanneylands, where she stayed overnight and celebrated with her family.
Yolanda has been a respite resident at Hazelmere House since May 2024. Born in Leeds, Yolanda married Russell in May 1952; the couple went on to have two boys, five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. In her spare time, Yolanda played bridge and competed at national level.
When asked her advice for a long and happy life, Yolanda replied: “I love my food, it keeps me fit and healthy!” She continued: “I had an incredible birthday, surrounded by my family. It was wonderful to hear Paul Bryan sing Happy Birthday.”
Home Manager at Hazelmere House, Joanne Thackwell, commented: “We loved celebrating Yolanda’s very special day with her. Yolanda is full of life and everyone at Hazelmere House loves having her here. She is always sharing interesting stories with the residents and carers.”
