Local Brownies visit Southampton care home

Residents at Knights Grove Bupa Care Home were recently visited by a local group of Brownies.
The local Brownies visited the specialist dementia care home to meet all the residents, to enjoy conversations and share stories. They also brought flowers as a gift for the residents; with jars they decorated with stickers to add a personal touch.
One resident, Dorothy Pope, has a lifelong connection to Brownies having been a Tawny Owl when she was growing up. Dorothy helped run Brownies in Lockerley, Awbridge and her first daughter was also a Brownie.
Dorothy was delighted to meet Tawny Owl, Natalie, and share photos of her when she used to attend her local group. The pair exchanged stories and compared life as a modern Brownie compared to when Dorothy was a young girl.
Clare Relf, home manager at Knights Grove, commented: “It was a fantastic day, everyone was smiling and laughing. It was extra special for our resident, Dorothy, as it brought back a lot of memories. It was wonderful to see our residents enjoying speaking with the children, who seemed to have a lot of fun too!”
Activity co-ordinator at Knights’ Grove, Rosie Willsher, added: “The residents were all excited for the this visit and really enjoyed spending time with the children. It was great to see the different generations connect.”
