Bigger and better dental insurance benefits for employees

13 October 2025

We continually evolve our dental products to help support your workforce and to ensure that our product remains market-leading and provides value as the cost of dentistry increases.

Bupa dental insurance is a moneyback product, which means we pay a contribution towards your employees’ preventative and restorative treatments up to their benefit allowances. It also provides cover up to benefit allowances for orthodontic and emergency treatment. Oral cancer treatment is also covered in full if a claimant chooses a fee-assured consultant. Our dental insurance is intended to help your employees fund their dental treatment.

Around 7 in 10 claims are for preventative treatment and we have made the following changes this year where your employees will see the most benefit.

Watch our webinar for a summary of the key upcoming changes: Dental Evolution - Introducing All Included - Meeting Recording on Vimeo

Below we have also outlined the full details of all the changes we are making from December 2025.

Exciting enhancements to our preventative benefits

Dental Plan

For Dental Plan, we’re making a big change to dental cover that will give your employees more for their money. We’ll pay for most preventative treatment in full when claimants choose to visit a Bupa Dental Care practice. This means there will be nothing for your employees to pay, no matter what level of cover they’re on, for a new patient examination^, routine examination* (check-up) and scale and polish appointments. It’s all included in the price of their cover.

We’ve also stretched our Dental Plan benefit allowances further for preventative treatment to ensure your employees continue to see added value even if they choose to visit a non-Bupa practice.

Directly responding to customer feedback we've also removed our two-visit cap on routine examinations and scale and polish benefits. This means your employees can now claim money back every time they visit their dentist for these treatments.

The table below shows the increase to benefit allowances and uplift (effective for new and renewing policies from 1 December 2025):

Routine examination (every time you visit) Scale and polish (every time you visit)
Current allowance Increased to Current allowance Increased to
Level 2 £50 £60 £60 £70
Level 3 £70 £80 £90 £100
Level 4 £80 £90 £100 £110

Dental Choice

For Dental Choice we will also cover the full cost of your employees’ new patient exam^ when they use a Bupa Dental Care practice. This will apply across all levels of cover.

We have also made changes to My Bupa whereby all employees can now use their My Bupa account to see their benefit allowances, and what they have left to claim before their policy renews. They can also make a claim easily online via the My Bupa app.

What else is new?

We have changed our terms so we now:

  • Cover anti-snoring devices
  • Replace implants, bridges and dentures if they fail
  • Extend continuity of cover for a dental injury
  • Cover main members from 16 years old
  • We’ve removed the hospital stay cash benefit as we found customers weren’t staying overnight for dental treatment. This change has meant we have been able to prioritise the other benefits that your employees value and use.
  • We’ve explained that if employees pay for their orthodontic treatment up front (by a loan), then they can only claim once. No further payments will be made even if their treatment continues into the next policy year.
  • On Dental Choice, we’ve clarified when a crown is placed on top of a surgical implant, then this must be claimed from the surgical implant benefit.

Full details of all changes can be found in the Notification of Change (NOC):

^ Your new patient examination is fully covered which means there’s nothing extra for your employees to pay for the examination when they visit a Bupa Dental Care practice. If the dentist needs to take small x-rays (bitewing or periapical) as part of a new patient exam, these are also included at no additional cost.

*Routine examinations are fully covered which means your employees won’t need to pay anything extra for the examination at their appointment. If any x-rays or scans are needed during the examination, benefit allowances will apply.
