Training and qualifications

Phillip qualified from the University of Sheffield in 2009 with honours and gained the Pitts Ford Endodontic prize on graduation. Education was a large part of Phil’s early foundation, attending many courses while building valuable knowledge to pass onto fellow dental colleagues. He worked as an honorary clinical tutor for Sheffield University for seven years within their renowned outreach programme and was an educational supervisor for six years, supporting foundation dentists (FD) with two of his FD’s winning best in programme.

Phillip has carried on this educational delivery through yearly Foundation Dentist Endodontic programmes with East Midlands Deanery. He also delivers endodontic lectures and hands-on days nationally to fellow GDP’s within Bupa, and he works alongside Schottlander with their Modern Endodontic Day programme which has run since 2021. In 2026, Phillip plans on teaching in Northern Ireland for the first time.

Phillip also worked in the acute care sector for eight years in emergency dental care provision, and as part of the 111 service he gained key skills in diagnostics and patient care pathways.

Day to day, Phillip works in a mixed practice setting across two distinguished practices. He took over a private (DwSI) endodontic referral service in 2017, which continues to grow, utilising the skills gained in his MSc Endo at UCLAN 2018 to tackle more complex cases. With his history of endodontic knowledge and provision he also worked as part of the Bupa Dental Advisory Committee as an endodontic advisor to their senior leadership team for over four years. Phillip continues to expand his endodontic knowledge and skills by attending national and international conferences, and he has been a member of the British Endodontic Society since 2009.

Treatments offered

Phillip provides a full range of general dental care, including routine check-ups, hygiene advice and restorative treatments. He believes that holistic patient care is of utmost importance and he takes great care in delivering the optimal level of care with every case.

His clinical interests lie primarily within the field of endodontics (root canal treatments). Having gained further qualifications, he is able to use his Dentist with a Special Interest (DwSI) status to accept referrals internally and externally. The endodontic referral service at Malin Bridge has run successfully since 2017, and it continues to grow with recent new industry-leading endodontic microscopy and endodontic equipment purchased.

Phillip can treat a wide array of endodontic cases including acute care, which can be of real benefit to patients suffering from debilitating endodontic pain. Phil is also able to prescribe and report on CBCT imagery which can be invaluable accompaniment to some trickier cases. In addition to general practice, Phil welcomes referrals for patients requiring advanced care in the following areas:

  • Primary root canal
  • Secondary root canal or re-treatment cases
  • Post and core provision
  • Removal of posts and fractured instruments
  • Acute care – incision/drainage and medication delivered directly to the tooth
  • Apexification cases
  • Apical plug management (large diameter or wide canals)
  • Internal Bleaching
  • Crown and bridge work and restoration of the endodontically treated tooth

Whether delivering everyday care or managing intricate endodontic cases, Phillip’s rounded and thorough approach and commitment to clinical excellence ensure his patients feel supported and confident throughout their treatment journey.

Outside of work, Phillip enjoys playing golf off single figures, running and family time. He completed his first ever marathon (Manchester) in 2024 in a time of 2hrs 53min.
