Training and qualifications

After qualifying in dentistry from the University of Glasgow in 2013, Michael undertook further postgraduate training in oral surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery and restorative dentistry, in locations across the UK.

He then achieved his Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

In 2017, Michael was awarded a place on a five-year specialist training programme in Restorative Dentistry, based in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde region. During the programme, he treated patients with concerns such as hypodontia, facial trauma and head and neck cancer, who required complex multidisciplinary care. This provided Michael with contemporary training in all sectors of restorative dentistry (periodontics, endodontics and prosthodontics).

In 2021, Michael attained Fellowship in Restorative Dentistry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (FDS RestDent) as well as Membership in Periodontics (MPerio RCPSG). He was also awarded an MSc (R) from the University of Glasgow, for his periodontal research.

Over the years, Michael has produced multiple publications which have featured in international peer-reviewed journals. This has led to the international presentation of his work. He is well respected within the profession, having been elected by his peers onto the Dental Executive Council of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2018. He has a wealth of experience in the development of both national and international specialist clinical guidelines within the field of periodontology.

Michael's interests lie in predictable, evidence-based specialist treatment and he particularly enjoys the provision of surgical periodontal therapy, dental implant supported rehabilitation and soft and hard tissue grafting.
