Following this she went on to work in a small family practice in Barry, and then undertook dental training in community dentistry, oral surgery, oral medicine and maxillofacial surgery.

Alys spent a year in New Zealand, where she worked as a dentist with special interest in oral surgery and accepted referrals from neighbouring practices.

After returning to the UK in 2019, Alys took a permanent post in the Royal Gwent, The Grange, and the Nevill Hall hospitals, where she provided oral surgery procedures under both local and general anaesthetic. Alys teaches both junior doctors and dentists in this specialism. She also partakes in an on-call rota looking after and treating patients with potentially life-threatening dental infections and facial traumas.

Alys has completed her membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (Edinburgh) and trained in facial aesthetics and dental acupuncture. She is the audit lead for the maxillofacial department of the Aneurin Bevan health board and organises the monthly meetings as well as assisting junior members of staff with research and audit projects.
