Kaila has a keen interest in oral surgery and has years of experience providing oral and maxillofacial surgery in hospitals across Scotland. She can provide a range of surgical treatments at the practice under different types of sedation
Dr Kaila Girvan graduated from Glasgow University in 2012 with a Bachelor in Dental Surgery with honours. After qualifying, Kaila held a variety of posts in general dental practice, the public dental service and in hospitals.

She has a wealth of experience in providing dental treatment for anxious adult and child patients, the elderly, and those with complex medical conditions, under both conscious sedation and general anaesthesia.

She acquired extensive surgical experience whilst working as a senior house officer in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Southern General Hospital, which included rotations in head and neck oncology and trauma. She has also held hospital positions in the departments of oral surgery and restorative dentistry. Her primary interest lies in oral surgery and she has a particular interest in conscious sedation, dental implants and the treatment of nervous patients.

In 2014, Kaila obtained Membership of The Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS) at The Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow. In 2016, she qualified in practising intravenous conscious sedation in Manchester. Since 2017, Kaila has also been qualified in the interpretation and reporting of dental CT scans.

She is a member of the Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry (SAAD), the International Team of Implantology (ITI) and the Association of Dental Implantology (ADI).

Kaila can provide a range of general oral surgery services, management of impacted third molars (basic to complex), failed and complex dental extractions, labial frenectomies, routine biopsies, orthodontic extractions, surgical exposure of ectopic impacted teeth (orthodontics) and removal of supernumerary teeth and small cysts. Treatment can be provided under IV sedation for patients over the age of 12. She also has experience using CBCT to facilitate assessment and planning of surgical cases.

Kaila currently provides sedation services across the Central Belt of Scotland. She has recently become an accredited supervisor with the Faculty of the Royal College of Surgeons of England for mentoring of colleagues in conscious sedation. She thoroughly enjoys teaching and has experience in formal hands-on training in oral surgery.
