Hi, my name is Gurwinder Dhesi.
I'm a Specialist Prosthodontist and Implant Surgeon here at Colchester Dental Specialist Centre.
Prosthodontist is a specialty dedicated to restoring very broken down teeth and heavily filled teeth as well as replacing missing teeth.
So a lot of my work evolves around dental implants as well as complex full mass rehabilitations.
Every Prosthodontist has their own niche, so I really enjoy advanced sort of complex implant work.
I like working in the aesthetic zone, recreating hard and soft tissue and essentially trying to make implant restorations look as natural as possible.
That's sort of my niche, as well as doing full arch and media load restorations.
So naturally the cases that we get referred often are when either sort of something hasn't gone to plan or if the case is really complex, if it's going to involve, you know, change of all the restorations, changing their OVD sort of that vertical dimension.
So often those are the ones that are referred to us and, and generally those are the ones I enjoy the most where I'm, I'm sort of doing a full mass rehabilitation utilising all the techniques that we have.
So using, you know, crowns, bridges, veneers, implants within all one case.
They're probably my favourite cases.
Sometimes if a case involves loads of different areas, they'll usually refer to a start to, you know, a prosthodontist that myself and then I'll be able to treat and find the whole case as well as utilising the other specialists.
So if they need orthodontics prior to treatment, if they need endodontics, periodontics, we'll do all of that under one roof.
And then of course, you know, I'll be able to guide the whole treatment, you know, for the patient, prosthodontics, we have a duty to essentially assess the whole mouth holistically.
So we'll take full mouth X-rays, usually small X-rays or large X-rays.
Sometimes if they're afraid for implants, they'll they'll get ACT scan, which we have the facilities from here and, and we'll do a 3D digital scan as well.
And then the assessment is very thorough.
So we usually book an hour at least and that allows us to diagnose everything.
And then when it comes to the treatment planning aspect, if it's a you know what, we turn a straightforward case, we will give the patient the different options as well as the costs on the day.
For the more complex cases, what tends to happen is we'll do the full assessment and then it can take up to one to two hours for me to plan that case.
So I will essentially take that time and then we will invite the patient back for a review, go through all of their different options and then they get a very detailed letter outlining all of their option, the cost associated and then they can choose, you know, how they want to proceed.
