Training and qualifications

Naomi Burden has worked in dentistry since 1997, starting out as a dental nurse in general practice and The Community Dental Service, before going on to qualify as a dental hygienist and therapist in 2008 at the School of Professionals Complimentary to Dentistry (now Dental Academy) in Portsmouth.

Naomi joined The Wessex Dental Specialist Centre as part of the dental hygienist team in March 2022, and she has continued her development by completing courses in prescribing radiographs, providing direct access and orthodontic assessment (prior to referral to an orthodontist).

Treatments offered

She has enjoyed treating patients in the general and special care dental service, with a particular interest in prevention of dental disease. Naomi offers tailored advice to her patients to ensure they can achieve the optimal level of oral health care.

She has now expanded her role at The Wessex to include the ‘therapy’ part of her qualification. This includes carrying out examinations and radiographs, preventative treatments (such as fluoride application and fissure sealants), fillings, crowns and extractions of deciduous teeth. Dental Therapists can also treat permanent teeth if they are not pulpally involved or requiring extraction.

Naomi is happy to receive referrals for paediatric patients who are struggling to receive treatment in general practice and who need to be seen sooner than the current wait for referral into the special care dental service.

Naomi looks forward to meeting you and being part of your dental health journey here at The Wessex Dental Specialist Centre.
